I was talking to a friend and he said “I have more than 17000 e-mails in my e-mail account”, another friend said his saved e-mails date back as far as 1990’s.
Why we are so eager to keep this massive amount of data? Is it because it’s so easy and almost free to keep backing up data? Or it is because we are turning into information age societies where our lives events are recorded from the day we are born?
With the date backup comes to issue of data security, the more data we have the more data security solutions we need.
One of the reasons that led to this demands for data is the “do it online” movement. Now almost every bank, government agency, university, service provider, major corporation have online data access tools on their websites. In order for this “do it online” initiative to work, massive amount of data must be saved.
